Joshua Hammer has spent 30 years as a roving foreign correspondent, the first half as a Newsweek bureau chief on five continents, the second half as a frequent contributor to the New York Times Magazine, GQ, Smithsonian, the New York Review of Books and other publications. He’s the author of five books, including the New York Times best seller ‘The Bad-ass Librarians of Timbuktu’ and the LA times best seller ‘The Falcon Thief’, and is working on his sixth, about the 19th-century archaeologists and scholars who deciphered the world’s oldest writing, to be published by Simon & Schuster in 2024. Based in Berlin, Hammer has made two journalistic trips to Ukraine since the Russian invasion.
