Back in a time before one particular “character” took over Twitter, when tweets were still somewhat of a novelty featuring 140 characters, Kate Feiffer created a print of 140 little people. She didn’t have much she wanted to tweet about, then or now, but liked the idea of 140 unique little characters, which is what was allowed for a tweet at that time. Feiffer is still drawing little characters, and with this piece she hopes to encourage and celebrate reconnecting — putting down our devices for the simple, satisfying, and glorious act of reconnecting, person to person, in person.

The work of author and illustrator Kate Feiffer will be the subject of a solo show at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse Art Space from June 21 to July 11. Feiffer, a contributing editor at The MV Times, has titled the exhibit “Dedicated to Doodle.” She will be showing, among other things, a whimsical series of simple line drawings embellishing the actual dedication pages of classic books.
