Cheri Christensen

(Christensen, Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell me, oil on board, 7 x 20″)

The glowing aspect . . . There’s no special paint or trick with lights. It’s about color, value, temperature, and intensity. Getting those relationships right. I also like late-evening light, so I try and go out just before sunset. The light here on the Vineyard is different than New Mexico, where I live. A bit softer, I’d say, and there are more greens, of course. That changes the way the light hits the subject and the reflected light on the animals.

Cheri Christensen’s work is at Eisenhauer Gallery all summer. North Water Street, Edgartown.
