M-C Lamarre makes the old new

M-C takes old and used items and repurposes them into something useful.

M-C Lamarre has been on and off the Vineyard for years. This year she’s teamed up with Zita Cousens, owner of Cousen Rose Gallery in Oak Bluffs, where her work will be on display from July 8 to Sept. 18.

Ms. Lamarre is best known for her Green Monster Fenway Park murals seen all over the country and in Canada, which explains all the time spent off-Island. But now that she’s here, she’s excited to dive back into a longtime passion project — turning someone else’s trash into treasure. A grandfather clock without the pendulum, for instance, makes a really good wine rack. Ms. Lamarre has made clocks from old records, picture frames from old tennis rackets, and a hamper from a mailbox. Her bookends are retro roller skates, and her shades are maps from past trips.

“Somebody had this at some time,” she says, “and that brings about a really good energy.”
